Rare copy of this comprehensive treatise on ovens by August Wilhelm Beyse (1798-1852). Beyse was a Prussian army engineer and responsible for constructing the ovens in the large kitchens of the Koblenz fortifications. When his findings were met with disbelief by the official experts, he published this treatise as a once and for all demonstration on how to improve the combustion technology with significant reduction of wood consumption. Beyse would later publish pioneering works on trains and railways and was chief engineer of Hungary’s first railway. In 1852 he fled to America because of his involvement in riots in Breslau during the German Revolution of 1848.
