HANNOW, Joachim Eberart von
Bonus Mulier, Sive Centuria Juridica Practica Quaestionum illustrium: De Mulieribus vel Uxoribus
s.l., s.n., 1627 (possibly Rostock, A. Ferber)
in-12, 18 p., later bound in cardboard, title to spine; nice copy
Rare satirical text in Latin which appeared first in 1616, with an imprint in German of a vehement Luther sermon of 1543 against the study of canon law as “papal dirt”, “stinking dirt” and “donkey fart” etc., by which “our gentleman the jurists” mean to know what faith, love and sacrament is. This text also appeared as part of the collation “Facetiae Facetiarum” from 1627 and later, which the Rostock publisher A. Ferber put together from original prints. These farcical texts were popular among the students and mostly written under pseudonyms.
