BUBER, Martin
Reden und Gleichnisse des Tschuang-Tse. Deutsche Auswahl von Martin Buber.

Leipzig, Insel-Verlag, 1910
small 4to, cardboard binding with pictorial boards, 123 p.; good copy, boards slightly soiled, stains to the top edges and upper right corner of pages

First edition of Martin Buber’s translation of the Zhuangzi, an ancient Chinese text from the late Warring States period (476–221 BC) which contains stories and anecdotes that exemplify the carefree nature of the ideal Taoist sage. Named for its traditional author, “Master Zhuang”, the Zhuangzi is one of the two foundational texts of Taoism, along with the Tao Te Ching. The german edition by Martin Buber was important because of its afterword on the doctrine of the Dao.
