A first edition copy of this pocket sized guide aimed at early twentieth century English tourists adventuring in Malaya. Map of 1920 in the pocket at the rear. Illustrated with seven colour plates by Mrs. H.C. Barnard and numerous photographic monochrome plates by Kleingrothe and others. It includes mentions of the Singapore stone, the history of Singapore, rail connections to Singapore, and other nuggets of information such as insight into the industries of Singapore and Malaya. The Federated Malay States was established by the British government in 1895 and consisted of four protected states in the Malay Peninsula: Selangor, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang. The federation achieved independence in 1946 when the Malayan Union was formed and which would later become Malaysia. This is one of the most detailed, specific, and interesting guide books written on the Federated Malay States. Copyright date at the back of the book.
